INFO ON GREYMOUTH AND THE WEST COAST OF
NEW ZEALAND

Greymouth is a town of surprises. Greymouth real estate is proving itself to be the best place to invest.

This is because house prices continue to grow rapidly as do rentals making the annual rental return sit at 7-9%.

You may ask yourself Why Greymouth?

Why invest in a small town on the West Coast of the South Island which most people in New Zealand haven’t ever heard about. Why is Greymouth doing so well with its real estate. Why are its statistics showing better returns than those in Auckland?

The answer is coal and gold.

The rising gold prices made it viable for private gold companies to invest and open new goldmines in the area. Companies such as Oceana gold have already started mining operations in a nearby town called Reefton.

Another company called Seafield resources are going to start mining gold

out of the coastal seabed off the West Coast.

The rise in the oil prices and the growing metal industries in China and India have created a big world demand for coal which fortunately is abundant in the Greymouth area. There are some state owned coal mines in the area already. They have invested a good few million in the mines infrastructure and as well in new upgraded railway bridges in an attempt to deal with the huge expanded production of coal.

There are also some private coal mining companies in operation. The biggest is Pike River coal company which has invested more than 70 million dollars in the last few years. They have created the biggest underground coal mine in New Zealand. This company has also been investing in roading infrastructure and is giving the old port a 20 million dollar revamp to be able to ship over 1 million tones of coal per year out of Greymouth.

All of these mining projects have created well paid jobs for many people.

The projection is that 4000-6000 people are going to move into the area within the next 2 years.

All of these people will need a place to live. …and that makes it a heaven for investors. ….both by fast capital growth and high rentals.

The average house prices in Greymouth is $220,000 for a 3 bedroom freehold

home which rents out at around $300 per/week.

The town itself is also being upgraded. Old and historical buildings are undergoing renovations, a new aquatic center is being built, there are plans for a shopping mall and of course lots of new housing.

It's not only real estate that is growing rapidly in Greymouth.

Tourism is also growing as Greymouth stands as the junction for the natural wonders of the West Coast from the famous Punakaiki pancake rocks to the ice glaciers. A new fashionable addition is expensive charter game fishing of the albacore tuna which brings more and more people catching record weights of tuna.

In the last 2-3 years, real estate investors have doubled and even tripled their original capital investment here in Greymouth. You may think it's too late to get in and jump on this wave of capital gain and lots of people think that way. But luckily they are mistaken.
